Essential Time Management Skill

Published: 28/08/2022 @BlogSpotMedia

Time, as experts have said is the most valuable resource humans have. Time lost can not be replaced; activities or goals you set for yourself that you are unable to achieve due to the passing of time can either point to a lack of proper time management ethics or unavailability of other essential resources required to reach the goals set.

A proper time management ethics is important in everything we do. Having all the essential resources you need to reach your goals does not guarantee success if the most important resource (time) is poorly managed.

Experts said time can be reallocated from activities of lower value to activities of higher value. Proper time management ethics is a skill that can be mastered; anyone can improve and be able to manage their personal time better.

WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR TIME MANAGEMENT

  1. Think about the things you have to do in order of their importance, write them down, organize the required tools or resources that is essential to accomplish them and prepare yourself for the task ahead.
  2. Have a daily checklist; having a daily checklist of activities you want to accomplish will help you monitor your progress on each activity you have planned for the day; a daily checklist of activities will also help you prioritize your daily goals and objectives in order of their importance.
  3. Set time limit; each activity on your daily checklist should have a set period or time you intend to get it done. This will help you effectively manage your time and improve your personal time management. Setting time limit for each activity on your checklist is a good way to improve the rate and speed at which you get things done.
  4. Take a stock; after a day full of activities, take a stock of yourself and what you have been able to accomplish, go through and over your daily checklist to see how much you are able to do and how well you have managed your time on each task.

When you are able to learn how to manage your time effectively, you realize how efficient you become at everything you do.

Time will challenge your drive to accomplish set goal(s) or task(s) at some point; no matter the resources available to you, but with proper knowledge of time management, you will be able to accomplish your goals and beat deadlines. There is no better time than now for you to incorporate the time management skills mentioned above into your daily life for productivity and over all improvement.

Keeping your values valuable

Published: 24/08/2022 @BlogSpotMedia

Acknowledged worth or importance of a person/ thing is what their value is.

Being self-aware of your worth or importance means you know your value; feedbacks from your co-workers, associates, friends or even society is the most accurate pointer to ascertain/ confirm that you have certain values, and it also ensures you know where you are lacking that needs improvement.

When you are sure what your values are, what is more important is keeping and improving on your values. This is not as easy as it sounds, in fact it is the hardest part of being a valuable person.

Your individual values will be challenged consciously or unconsciously, if you are not aware of the challenges putting your values to test, you will eventually be at the mercy of those factors challenging your worth; attestation of your worth/ values from associates will begin to depreciate, your integrity will be put to test and the people that already believe in you and your values will begin to doubt and this will lead to loss of trust.

Complacency is a major reason a lot of once valuable individuals lost value, not being able to assess and appreciate your progress and achievement over time; and you start feeling the need for unnecessary validations or irrelevant approvals, this will automatically put your values to question. Complacency makes you abandon your values for clout or irrelevant activities.

Arrogance is equally as dangerous to your values as complacency. Arrogance gives you an exaggerated sense of importance; it makes you reject useful advice or opinion(s). An arrogant individual can not be wrong, even when they are. They don’t feel the need to retrace their steps or assess their actions and inactions for productive improvement, after all they believe they are perfect and can’t be wrong. This trait can also make you lose value.

Lastly, integrity. Valuable individuals are known to be people of unquestionable integrity. Having an unquestionable integrity keeps you valuable. If your integrity is in question, your values begin to depreciate, people start to question if truly you are what they have believed you to be, this doesn’t affect your values alone, it also reduces the trust invested in you for your values.

To have useful values is not enough, working on yourself to maintain and improve on those values is more important if you will remain a valuable individual.

It is imperative to note that a minute pause to think about your last few actions and inactions can be all you need to proceed to the next stage of your life. Taking a critical assessment of your actions and inactions is ultimately important to make informed and right decisions that will propel you forward in life.

Decisions made based on sentiments or emotions are often flawed. But decisions you make based on critical assessment of any situation will certainly guide and lead you right.

When you find yourself in situations demanding your best but you are stuck and unable to progress or give it your best shot, a detailed look into the reasons why you are yet to give your best is what experts call critical self assessment.

Critical self assessment is important because it ensures you know the reasons why you are stuck and unable to give your best.

Basically, all you need to get out of that point you are stuck in, is critical assessment of the actions you have taken that yielded good results, the unyielding actions and the steps or actions you refuse to take to ensure your best and an overall excellent performance; doing this will ensure you know in details what you have not done that needs to be done, to proceed to the next stage of your life or complete a task or reach your goals.

Consulting professionals such as therapists, doctors, business coaches and consultants, counsellors; with more knowledge and experience about your situation after a critical self assessment, to help you through hard moments where you are stuck and unable to proceed to the next stage of your life or complete a task, is a good way to go in situations you realize you can’t do it alone after critical self assessment.

In conclusion, before you decide it is professional help you need or self help, you first have to take a critical assessment of yourself or situation.

Concentration

Published: 19/08/2022 @BlogSpotMedia

Concentration is the ability to direct your maximum attention and focus on a task or activity.

It is easier to concentrate when there are no distraction(s); distractions are factors that can affect your ability to concentrate and your overall performance.

The passing of time (seconds, minute, hour); will automatically inform your sense of assessment if you are getting your goals right or you are losing concentration, this will direct your attention towards assessing your progress on a task or activity, before your output level or overall performance is affected.

Anyone can be distracted and eventually lose concentration, but time and your sense of assessment will not let you down, you will know when you start losing concentration.

The next step to take when you know you are distracted and losing concentration is to figure out why and what are the factors that are distracting you; when you know the reason(s) why you are distracted, your concentration is unconsciously being restored, because you can’t correctly assess or analyze your situation (life) without concentrating your mind, this process will ensure that you know the factors that are distracting you and how you will direct and concentrate your mind towards achieving your goal(s).

Factors that can distract and make you lose concentration include;

Work, relationship(s), anxiety, deadline(s), break-up/ divorce, worries, stress.

Being able to concentrate is a process; learning to ignore your distractions and focusing your total attention on a task or goal(s) is what builds the winning attitude.

Distractions can be anything or situation that is taking your mind away from the things that are important to your life, progress and overall performance, however, when this happens, don’t hesitate to assess the situation and figure out the reason(s) why you are distracted and in the process your concentration will be restored.

10 steps to develop your creativity

Published: 12/08/2022

  1. Change your language from negative to positive:
The more positive your language is, the more confident and optimistic you will be when approaching any difficulty, and the more creative and insightful you will be in identifying solutions and breakthrough ideas.
  2. Define your situation or difficulty clearly: What exactly is the challenge you are facing? What is causing you the stress and anxiety? What is causing you to worry? Why are you unhappy? Write it out clearly in detail. Sometimes what you are worrying about is what is called a ‘cluster problem’. It is a series of small problems clustered together. You need to sort them out and define them separately.
  3. Ask, ‘what else is the problem?’: Don’t be satisfied with a superficial answer. Look for the root cause of the problem rather than getting sidetracked by the symptom. Approach the problem from several different directions.
  4. Ask, ‘ what are my minimum boundary conditions?’: what must the solution accomplish? What ingredients must the solution contain? What would your ideal solution to this problem look like? Define the parameters clearly.
  5. Pick the best solution by comparing your various possible solutions against your problem on the one hand, and your ideal situation on the other. What is the best thing to do at this time under the circumstances?
  6. Before you implement the decision, ask ‘what’s the worst possible thing that can happen if this decision doesn’t work?’
  7. Set measures for your decision: How will you know that you are making progress? How will you measure success? How will you compare the success of this solution against the success of another solution? If you decide to sell or market your product or service in a particular way, how will you know that you have made the right decision? How will you define a success? Make it measurable; then monitor it on a regular basis.
  8. Accept complete responsibility for implementing the decision. If you don’t have time to follow through yourself, you might want to delegate responsibility for the implementation of the action steps. Many of the most creative ideas never materialize because no one is specifically assigned the responsibility of carrying out the decision.
  1. Set a time range for implementation. A decision without a time range is a meaningless discussion. If it is a major decision that will take some time to implement, set a series of short-term goals that will lead you to eventually achieve your main goal and a schedule for reporting.
  2. Take action. Get busy. Get going. Develop a sense of urgency. The faster you move in the direction of your clearly defined goals, the more creative you will be, the more energy you will have, the more you will learn, and the faster you will develop your capacity to achieve even more in the future.

The world is full of creative individuals who have wonderful ideas. But almost all of them fall short when it comes to implementation. And this is where you can excel. The future belongs to the creative minority who do not only think like innovators, but also take action and put their ideas into effect.

You can solve any problem, overcome any obstacle, or achieve any goal you set for yourself by using your wonderful creative mind and then taking action consistently and persistently until you attain your objective. Success is the mark of a creative thinker, and when you use your ability to think creatively, your success can be unlimited.

Positive Mental Attitude

Published: 12/08/2022

A positive mental attitude is indispensable to success and achievement. You can foster and maintain a positive mental attitude by focusing on doing what lies clearly at hand, by taking the step that appears immediately in front of you. That will automatically lead to the next step, and the next , and so on, and eventually you will find yourself at your goal.

But there is much more to a positive mental attitude than this. You can have a positive attitude that disappears in the face of adversity, or you can have an attitude that is strong that no matter what happens to you, you remain positive, cheerful, and optimistic.

Your degree of self-confidence is what determines how positive your attitude really is, and self-confidence is based on your belief in yourself and your ability. It is based on faith, or knowing that things are going to work out well in the long run, no matter how distressing they appear to be in the short run.

Right from the beginning, you can choose to be positive and constructive in dealing with adversity. You can sit down and think through the situation and then begin to deal with it one oil barrel at a time.

Of course, this is not easy as it sounds. We all are faced with four obstacles that tend to get in the way of our maintaining a positive mental attitude. These obstacles are fear, worry, anger, and doubt.

When things are not working out the way we had expected, our immediate response is to become fearful and uneasy. We are afraid we will lose our money, waste our effort, or forfeit our emotional or physical investment in what we have done. If we are not careful, we start thinking of our potential losses rather than focusing on our potential gain.

Fear triggers worry, and we begin to use our power of imagination to create all sorts of negative images that causes us unhappiness and insomnia(sleep disorder/ difficulty) and make us unable to perform effectively.

Fear and worry create anger, or what has been called the ‘victim complex’. instead of moving constantly forward in the direction of our dreams, we begin to react and respond and to blame other people and other situations for our problems.

Surrounding these negative emotions is the mental quality of doubt. Doubt is a fertile breeding ground for the other three negative emotions. Therefore, to eliminate these obstacles to positive thinking, you need to systematically use your mind to get rid of the weakening emotion of doubt.

How do you do this? It is simple- The only real antidote to fear, worry, anger, and doubt is positive action toward the achievement of some worthwhile ideal.

Psychologists tell us that the key to dealing effectively with life is what they call ‘cognitive control’. The cognitive control method is based on the assumption that you can think about and concentrate on only one thing at a time, either positive or negative. Successful people are no different from you and me. They have one outstanding characteristic; They consciously choose to think about what they want, rather than what they don’t want. And as a result they are continuously taking action toward their goals, rather than spending their time thinking and worrying about the inevitable challenges and difficulties that face them everyday.

If you visualize a positive outcome, if you think about it and see it and feel it and sense it in every respect, you begin to exert a powerful magnetic force that brings the desired goal or outcome into reality. In effect, you control your life and your destiny through the vivid mental images you hold in your mind on a continuous basis.

You are the architect of your personality and character. Your goal, your desire, is to be successful, happy, and prosperous as you possibly can in every aspect of your life. Therefore, the systematic development of a positive mental attitude is something you need to work on every hour.

There are six (6) things you can do to assure that your attitude is the very best it can be under all circumstances.

1. Whatever challenges you face, focus on the future rather than on the past. Instead of worrying about who did what and who is to blame, focus on where you want to be and what you want to do. Get a clear mental image of your ideal future, and then take whatever action you can to begin moving in that direction.

2. Whenever you are faced with a difficulty, focus on the solution rather than on the problem. Think and talk about the ideal solution to the obstacle or setback, rather than wasting time rehashing and reflecting on the problem. Solutions are inherently positive, whereas problems are inherently negative. The instant you begin thinking in terms of solutions, you become more positive and constructive.

3. Assume that something good is hidden within each difficulty or challenge.

4. Assume that whatever situation you are facing at the moment is exactly the right situation you need to ultimately be successful. This situation has been sent to you to help you learn something, to help you become better, to help you to expand and grow.

5. In every challenge, look for a valuable lesson. Assume that every setback contains a lesson that is essential for you to learn.

6. Whenever you have a goal that is unachieved, a difficulty that is unresolved, or a problem that is blocking you from getting where you want to go, sit down with a pen and paper and make a list of every thing you could possibly do to resolve the situation.

A positive mental attitude is indispensable to your success. [Excerpt from Dream Big Dreams; Brian Tracy & Andrew Wood]

Writer’s Block and Agraphia

Published: 10/08/2022 @BlogSpotMedia

WRITER’S BLOCK

Writer’s block is the condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing. This condition is common with writers (novelists), authors, content writers, lyricists. Writer’s block is more than just a mentality, under stress, a human brain will shift control from the cerebral cortex to the limbic system. The limbic system is associated with the instinctual processes, such as ‘fight or flight’ response; and behavior is based on deeply engrained training. The limited input from the cerebral cortex hinders a person’s creative processes, which is replaced by the behaviors associated with the limbic system.

A writer may run out of inspiration, or be distracted by other events. Writer’s block can also be caused by a writer’s history in writing, rules and restrictions from the past. Writers can be hesitant of what they write based on how it will be perceived by the audience.

Some other causes of writer’s block has been due to the writer’s anxiety. Writer’s anxiety is defined as being worried with one’s words or thoughts, thus experiencing writer’s block, it includes fear of taking a risk, ‘chaos’ in the pre-writing stage, judging versus generating ideas, an inability to incubate ideas, or a lack of motivation. Other reasons for writer’s block include perfectionism, self-criticism and external pressure.

AGRAPHIA

Agraphia is an impairment or a loss of a previous ability to write. With agraphia, the inability to write is due to issues with the cerebral cortex; this disables the brain’s process of translating thoughts into writing. Agraphia is a term applied to acquired disorders of spelling or writing caused by neurological damage in individual with normal premorbid literacy skills. Agraphia can occur in isolation, although it often occurs concurrently with other neurologic deficits such as alexia (impairments of reading), and aphasia (spoken language). Clinically agraphia can be divided into ‘central’ agraphia (also called ‘linguistic’ agraphia) and ‘peripheral’ agraphia ( also called ‘nonlinguistic’ agraphia).

There are several different agraphia profiles that variously result from impairments of spelling knowledge, sound-to-letter correspondences, letter-shape information, or motor control for handwriting.
